SIOUXLAND INTERSTATE METROPOLITAN PLANNING COUNCIL “Planning, Professionalism and Partnerships for the Siouxland Region”
SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL
In October of 2008, SIMPCO on behalf of the Safe Routes to School Task force, put together two applications for the Safe Routes to School program for a grant to develop a Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Plan for the Sioux City Eastside schools and the Sergeant Bluff-Luton schools. SIMPCO was awarded the funds and received an agreement with the Iowa DOT in November 2009 to begin the plan. The intent of both plans is to identify the deficiencies in the transportation system within a two mile radius of each school and to provide evaluation and recommendations to overcome he barriers of walking and biking to school whether they are infrastructure or non-infrastructure solutions.
SIMPCO staff is currently drafting the Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Plans for the Sioux City Eastside schools and the Sergeant Bluff-Luton schools. Please click on the links below to view the plans:
